REFLECTIONS: Portraits of Who I Am Community Showcase In-Person

On Display are works created by students of the REFLECTIONS Workshop Series presented by The WYE Project, Inc. in collaboration with the St. Cloud Boys & Girls Club during the Club’s 2023 Summer Camp program.

The Students, ages 13-to-16, were encouraged to explore who they are through the process of “creative expression.”

These were not drawing or painting classes, but rather, an exploration of the Inner Self through imagination and creativity, mostly in the abstract, which can be both cathartic and comforting. 32 students were served over the course of seven weeks.

With the facilitation of the Coordinator and two Student Interns, the youths were encouraged to explore their strengths; and their weaknesses; face their fears; and aspire to better things by expressing it all through the strokes of a paintbrush.

The Student Interns, Nomaris Hernandez and Kaitlynn Torres, who both attend St. Cloud High School, contributed to the creative process. With a good understanding of the concepts—and with the coordinator’s encouragement, they took the initiative to develop a pair of exercises to try out during two of the sessions. (Some Library patrons may recognize their names. They are also Teen Ambassadors here with the Veteran’s Memorial Library!)

Funding for the workshops was provided to The WYE Project through a very generous donation from a private benefactor given to the non-profit organization in 2022.
